With a Modest Flair
When Rachel Lubchansky embraced a more observant lifestyle in
St. Louis, Missouri, after graduating from the Fashion Institute
of Technology, she saw no reason why laws of modesty should
ignore rules of fashion. Finding few retailers catering to modern
women seeking modest apparel, she eagerly set out to create
an online boutique, www.funkyfrum.com, for religious women “who
did not want to forego femininity and style.”
After launching in August, the Web site immediately experienced
tremendous response, attracting not just Jews, but other women
with spiritual, religious and modesty sensitivities. “It
us much more far-reaching than I originally envisioned,”
Lubchansky, 27, says about her boutique, which features various
designers’ pieces with artistic flair and contemporary
cut. It will soon offer petites, plus and tall sizes.
